Privacy Policy
Effective 25 October 2026
The short version. RideON has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your rides, routes, sensor readings and settings are stored on your phone and never sent to us. We don't run servers that receive your data. A few features contact outside services to work (weather, maps, the route planner and speech recognition), and they're listed below.
Who we are
This policy covers the RideON app for iPhone and Android and the website at rideon.cc ("RideON", "we", "us"). If you have a question about privacy, email privacy@rideon.cc.
What stays on your phone
RideON is a bike computer. To do that job it records and stores the following, only on your device, in the app's own storage:
- Ride recordings: GPS positions, speed, distance, times, elevation, laps and ride names.
- Readings from Bluetooth sensors you pair: heart rate, power, cadence, speed and rear radar.
- Your rider profile, if you fill it in: weight, year of birth, sex, max heart rate and FTP. These are used to work out zones and calories.
- Routes you import, plan or share, the points you mark on them, and offline map tiles you save.
- Battery levels logged during rides, used to estimate battery time left.
- Your settings and data screen layouts.
We can't see any of this. It leaves your phone only when you choose to send it, for example when you export a FIT or GPX file, share a route, or export your settings. Where that file goes (Files, AirDrop, email, Strava, Garmin Connect or another app) is up to you, and that service's own privacy policy then applies.
Deleting a ride or route in the app deletes it from your phone. Uninstalling RideON deletes everything it stored. If your phone's own backup (iCloud or Google) is turned on, the operating system may include the app's data in that backup under Apple's or Google's terms.
Services RideON contacts
Some features need the internet. When they're used, your phone connects directly to these services. They receive your device's IP address, as any internet request does, plus what's listed below. We don't receive copies.
| Service | What it's for | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Open-Meteo | Weather fields and the weather page | Your approximate position (latitude and longitude), about every 10 minutes or 5 km during a ride. Terms and privacy |
| OpenFreeMap | Map backgrounds and saved offline maps | Requests for the map tiles around where you're looking or riding, which shows the general area. openfreemap.org |
| BRouter (brouter.de) | The route planner | The points you tap on the map while planning a route. brouter.de |
| Apple or Google (your phone's system services) | The town name on the weather page | Your approximate position, through the phone's built-in place lookup. |
| Apple or Google speech recognition | Voice commands | What you say after tapping the microphone. RideON uses recognition on the phone itself when it's available; otherwise your phone's recogniser may send the audio to Apple or Google to turn it into text. Nothing is recorded or kept by RideON. |
RideON doesn't include any advertising, analytics, crash reporting or tracking software, and doesn't sell or share your data with anyone.
Permissions and why RideON asks for them
- Location, including in the background: to record your ride and navigate while the screen is locked or another app is open. Location is only used while a ride is being recorded or a map is open.
- Motion and fitness (iPhone): to read the barometer for accurate elevation.
- Bluetooth: to connect to heart rate monitors, power meters, speed and cadence sensors, and rear radars.
- Microphone and speech recognition: only when you tap the microphone for a voice command.
- Notifications: for turn, climb, off-course and radar alerts when the app isn't on screen.
- Apple Music (iPhone) or notification access (Android): only if you turn on the music page, to show what's playing and control playback. RideON doesn't read or store your notifications or library.
- Files: only when you import a GPX file or save an export to a folder you pick.
- Photo library (iPhone): only if you choose to save or share something from RideON to your photos through the share sheet. RideON never reads, scans or uploads your photos.
You can turn any of these off in your phone's settings. Features that need them will stop working, but the rest of the app keeps going.
Health and fitness information
Heart rate, power and your rider profile can be sensitive. RideON keeps them on your phone, uses them only to show you your ride and work out zones and calories, and never sends them to us or to the services above.
This website
rideon.cc has no cookies, analytics or tracking. It's hosted on Cloudflare, which processes standard request information (such as IP address) to deliver and protect the site. See Cloudflare's privacy policy. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when it serves them. If you email us, we use your message and address only to reply.
Children
RideON isn't directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country) and we don't knowingly collect information from them. Since the app doesn't send personal information to us, we don't hold any to delete, but contact us if you have a concern.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR, UK GDPR or California privacy laws give you rights to access, correct, delete or move your personal information. Because your RideON data is held on your own phone, you can see, export and delete it yourself in the app at any time. For anything else, email privacy@rideon.cc and we'll respond within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
If we change how RideON handles data, for example by adding direct Strava upload or an account, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change goes live, and explain significant changes in the app.
